| WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? |
Then the Lord said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” (Genesis 3:13, NIV)
I don’t like making mistakes. I don’t like admitting my mistakes either, not when it could cost me my job.
I have worked for the same company for six years. I don’t expect to climb the corporate ladder. When I have the opportunity to advance, I seize it.
One opportunity involved learning new computer procedures. The trainer spent a lot of time with me and then left me to work on my own.
I made the same mistake twice. On the same day.
I wished they would overlook those mistakes. They almost cost me my new position. System checks would uncover them eventually. I had to take responsibility for my actions.
God demands the same accountability from me. “What is this you have done?” Whether I am bragging, whining or trying to blame someone else, He repeats His question until I confess. “I have sinned. Please forgive me.”
God doesn’t demand accountability to punish me. He desires to set me free from sin.
